Do you think Kundalas (Earrings) worn by our Gods are just ornaments?

Let us understand what they mean...

There are 5 Kinds of Kundalas (Earrings)

1.Patra Kundala – made of plain rolled sheet of gold or cylindrical sheets like palmyra leaf, worn by minor deities.
2.Makara/Nakra Kundala – are of Crocodile design worn by Shiva & Vishnu or their class of Gods. Indra is also sports them sometimes. Makara represents the water. Water is associated with creation of life on Earth. Makara Kundala also indicates the mastery in Sankhya & Yoga.
3.Sankha Patra Kundala – Conch in the shape of leaf are worn as earrings by goddesses like Uma. Fierce forms like Durga wear Simha Kundala which are less common.
4.Ratna Kundala – Circular earring studded with precious gems are worn by Vishnu, Shiva & Brahma equally and their class of Gods.
Ratna Kundala of brahma represents the cycle of life.

The Ratna Kundalas of Vishnu represent inherent opposites like – Gyan & Agyan, Sukha & Dukha indicating these are two sides of life on Earth.
Ratna Kundalas of Shiva indicate the Alakshya (Formlessness) & Niranjana (Invisible to Mortal eyes).

5.Sarpa Kundala – Exclusively worn by Shiva indicates his Status of Kundalini Yoga.
