Here is my serious answer to this question. [Thread]

Your job position does not dictate your guilt: You do.

Personally? I don't feel guilty taking a day off. Or rather, I don't *anymore*.

There are several reasons for that...

First of all, I know my work is better if I take a day off each week.

Secondly, I have worked to cultivate other aspects of my life: I'm a Roller Derby player and I am the Secretary for our league. I am valued in many ways beyond science and science communication.

Lastly, and most importantly, I have let go of the idea that I absolutely have to get a grant and a permanent job as a scientist.

I will NOT compromise the richness of my life: Science, sports, friends and family are all important to me.

Maybe I'd stand a better chance...

... maybe I'd stand a better chance of getting a prestigious grant if I did nothing but science.

In my mind it's not worth it.

In my mind, doing other things makes me a better person and ultimately a better scientist, even if the system doesn't acknowledge that.

So I take my day off free of guilt.

And if I get a professorship, I won't have compromised with my principles.

So take your day off, and live a beautiful life. It's short enough as it is. ❤️🙏
