BIRTH CONTROL THREAD: so I wanted to write this thread to talk about my experience with birth control pills because you don't get taught this in health class and when I was looking for more information on my options I couldnt find any good info.
So when I was looking at what kinds of contraceptives there are out there, how each one was used, and what the side effects are I felt like I couldnt find solid information on each thing. I also didnt know the actual experience of other people that have used pills, IUD,shots, etc
The only thing I knew was things I had heard of. I've heard countless stories of women getting pregnant and the IUD coming out with the baby (including my cousin) also the fact that I'd probably will have to go to a doctor to get that inserted was a no no
Bc I definitely didnt want my parents knowing I was having sex. Anyways then I talked to my one friend that had a boyfriend (all my other friends had never had a boyfriend so they were just as clueless as me) who told me that at our college's health services
I can make an appt and then get prescribed birth control pills. They might give other kinds of contraceptives but I didnt ask about the other ones bc she had told me her experience with the shots were not great since she gained a lot of water weight anddd
If you get the implant you have to get your arm cut up and then have it inserted. I definitely didnt want to have a scar or get hit in that spot if my arm and have it fuck me up somehow. So the pills were my best option. I was honestly scared at first andddd
Felt weird about going on birth control since even just having a boyfriend was new to me but I also wasnt tryna get pregnant. Anyways my main fear about doing birth control was my acne getting wayyyy worse. So when I made my appt and talked to the doctor I asked if there
Was any birth control pills that wont affect my acne and she said that there was one that actually helps acne. So I said sign me up!!!!! (I've been battling acne since middle school and had a bunch of acne scars. It be uglyy)
Now I'll get into how I've felt while being on it. I've been on the pill for about 8 or 9 months now and the first month was definitely a roller coaster. I was moody, wanted to devour every single hamburger and pizza loll but after that I went back to normal.
I wasnt moody or craving everything and I had only gained 2 pounds bc of how much I was indulging on my cravings. But after that initial month I lost those 2 pounds and didnt feel different. The only side effect that lasted for about 6 months was hair loss.
I was shedding hair like a dogggg but after 6 months I went back to normal again. Now I only lose like 1 or 2 strands in the shower. Ya know the normal amount. Now my period comes the EXACT day it's supposed to come and lasts the EXACT amount of time that it's supposed to last
Also I get my birth control for free (it's part of my tuition) and I dont have health insurance but my school gives me one. Now I'm like IN LOVE with the pill. I love how exact it is with my period and my acne is GONEEEE I only have a few acne scars.
I only get 1 or 2 pimples if I eat fast food, chips, or chocolate. The process for my acne to go away was slow (I had high hopes thinking it'd be gone in a month) after about 6 or 7 months it completely went away. Now I finally feel comfortable not wearing foundation.
So my advice is if you're in college check what services your health department offers and take advantage of it since you're paying for it already. If you're fortunate to just go to a doctor without worrying about your parents knowing, ask as many questions as you can.
Also, I'm not sure what services planned parenthood offers like if they give free birth control or give you it for a discount ted price but I think if they're your last option to see where you can have easy access to birth control then go in and ask what options they have.
If you have no other option have condoms on you all the time. You never know if the other person's condoms are reliable. Just be safe you guys. I did this thread so girls can have control over when and with who they want kids.
