My biggest fear in the #Cummings scandal is that it will lead people - tired, emotional and rightly angry - to take it as justification to ease up on adhering to the restrictions were still living under. And that’s the big issue with what he’s done - the terrible example it sets.
The ‘Protect Norfolk’ campaign came in the same week Boris eased lockdown and changed the message.

I believe authorities in Norfolk were concerned these were not clear or easy to follow - so had to come up with their own.
I also believe that, as long as we stay careful, history will show that in Norfolk, while any tragedies are awful, we managed to keep infections and deaths low. For a number of reasons.

It’s hard on us all, horrible not to see loved ones but keep going everyone and stay safe!
And as an aside, we have asked or will be asking for EVERY MP in Norfolk and Waveney to give us a statement on Dominic Cummings and is actions.
And if you’re wondering. I think there’s a number of reasons Norfolk and Norwich’s R rate has remained relatively low so far.
- remoteness of county. Fewer people travelling in and out.
- by time early cases arrived in county - people were being more careful.
- clear messaging from local organisations working together including @NorfolkCC @NorfolkPolice and more. We’re the first to criticise but I’ve been very impressed by how public bodies came together very quickly.
- and of course - people taking care and staying at home!
