There is a reason why there was never a media storm after Brexit GOTCHAs about Cummings from wackadoodles such as Carole Cadwalladr. That’s as there was no substance to them past “He’s really bad! He’s so evil! He looks weird! He won MY referendum!”

I agree with @IainDale that if Cummings becomes the story for that much longer *even if he behaved entirely within the rules* he should probably go, for the sake of optics if nothing else.

Cummings’ “I don’t care what it looks like” response when questioned about his trip(s) reminded me of Donald Rumsfeld’s “I have not even the slightest bit of concern how prisoners are treated in Guantanamo Bay”.

I did some research on #PlebGate yesterday.
So with Plebgate:
1) The Police had to sanction the Plebgate officers, BUT also
2) Mitchell lost the libel action that he brought against the Officer - I did not know/forgot about that last bit

What Boris, and Cummings are probably counting on is the counter optics.. the Westminster Bubble obsessing about one weird looking political wonk during a Global Pandemic may in and of itself be used as political capital.
I feel disillusioned.
Since the start of the pandemic, rightly or wrongly I’ve backed the government as I judged that they’re genuinely doing what they can within their means to save lives caused by a deadly disease.

Where’s the compassion for those who didn’t get to go to be with their loved ones in their final moments as they followed the letter *and the spirit* of the govt guidelines religiously?
