A restaurant capped at 50% capacity needs to ideally double it’s footprint. That’s not happening, but some outdoor space out their front (or back) door may be the dealbreaker to keep the doors open. 2/8

Taking the parking lane on both sides would cause a mutiny from our car storage advocates. (The city is currently not even charging for car storage in any of the BIDs)...remember what Jan Gehl told us:
“beautiful city...your cars must be very happy”

The city cites a fear of creating a destination but that’s exactly what Broadway is...and that’s not changing. We need dense yet not crowded zones. If done properly, we’ll take away the awkward sidewalk shuffles we are performing. 4/8

How about no cars on west 2 lanes from 8th-12th. 1 traffic lane each way on east lanes, parking remains on east side? 10+ food joints on west side that could consider outside service and/or seating.
Or vice-versa but wouldn’t connect to ‘Roastery Square’ at 5 corners as well. 5

Or inner lane each direction for cars with parking in outer driving lanes (current parking lanes become people space). There are likely better ideas and ones that work in other parts of the city once we scratch the surface and realize we’re already dealing with massive change. 6

Our advantage, as is often the case, will be our ability to watch and learn from other cities - both neighbours ( #yeg #ywg #yyc) and globally - and recognize the space we already have as we now adapt to how it should be prioritized. (7/8) #openstreets
