I have been craving beer for ages. So decided to register for a liquor license on Maharashtra Govt Excise portal anticipating the begining of home delivery by @swiggy_in sometime soon.

Now the experience of applying for this - “Permit for purchase, possession, transport, use and consumption of Foreign Liquor and Country Liquor in the State of Maharashtra (Annual or lifelong Permit) i.e. license in Form FL-XC granted under the Mumbai Foreign Liquor Rules,1953”

PLEASE DONT TRY IT ON YOUR MOBILE!

It is not designed for a mobile browser. I realised it after 15 minutes of trying to change my DateOfBirth from 2020 to my year of birth. There is no upward scroll. There is no scroll! There is only 2020 or LATER!

Your address field will require you to fill in Ward and Village. Before you break your head do a Google search of Ward Name for your Pincode. Once you enter this the ‘village’ drop down should have your pincode as an option.

Now comes the GRAND PRIX (Pronounced unlike the French) - UPLOADING YOUR DOCUMENTS

You need to upload Your photo, your signature, your Aadhaar or equivalent. Sounds simple?

Your signature upload has to exactly 256 pixels x 64 pixels (even on the English page the dimension numbers are written in Marathi so you have to guess hard to solve the challenge). Once you have solved it life is simple right?
Your signature file size...

... has to be between 5 kb and 20 kb. Enjoy the attempts to try and get your signature to this file size while maintaining 256 pixels x 64 pixels.

Some evil coder somewhere was not paid properly while building the site and decided to use a ‘goal seek’ challenge.

Caution - Dont try the cropping button provided on the site. You will go nuts. At least I did.

Repeat the process above for your photo as well. Have fun.

Now comes Aadhaar upload! You Will realise after 8-10 attempts that...

...the pop up message “invalid file name...” actually means “make the file name really short”. Maybe 5-6 characters.

Wait! The fun part - Everytine you hit any pop up message when you press submit?.... Everything is reset! You have to start uploading all documents from scratch.

After that it’s a breeze. The payment gateway etc.

And when you finally see the Green colour and a message saying “Your submission was successful”...you know you deserve the beer. An entire case of it!
