2. Theophany (theophaneia) in Greek literally means "appearance of God" and refers to appearances of the gods in the ancient Greek and MENA religions. God appeared, as it were, quite frequently in MENA until 20th century.
3. Although the epic poem Iliad is well known for Theophanies, the earliest recorded mention of Theophany in our region (Mesopotamian) is in the epic poem, the second oldest religious text in the world and the earliest known work of literature: the Epic of Gilgamesh.
4. So, our Ramadan, Lent, Yom Kippur, et al, have millennia of fascinating traditions, literature and epics on Theophany behind them.
