a lot of you don't know what happened to the economy after the plague took out a third of europe and it shows.
first of all revolts and revolutions were rampant especially seeded by peasants. those with land and status could not sustain their wealth because the people they took for granted to do the work were scarce. they had all died.
something wonderful is not going to happen to the current economy or the government because of this. that isn't what happens when huge numbers of people disappear from the populous in a matter of weeks. it isn't what happened during the plague which had outbreaks FOR YEARS.
so new wages were set and new laws were drawn to try and keep the status quo in place but the fact is that the economy and the political systems evolved drastically and hoarding wealth and sacrificing workers did not save the economy or the government.
people became accustomed to huge swaths of people dying off in rapid amounts of time and because there was no state apparatus in place to do anything the church became the center of life in europe and everything went stagnate.
eventually that didn't work either because the church simply started hoarding wealth and putting inept people in charge due to status-- also no one was immune to their entire community dying off instantly.
some great scholars of the middle ages through the modern era when "capitalism" was created have pinpointed the mass casualties from death as the reason the modern era as we know it landed.
