Theres a little test I& #39;d like to do...

Close your eyes if you want to, or not. But I& #39;d like you to think of an apple in your mind. Where is this apple? Are you seeing it in first person, or third? Does it have a stem or a leaf? Now try and change the color of said apple. (1/16)
How does it feel? Do you know how shiny it is? Can you rotate it? Can you put it in different lighting settings as if it were suddenly night or suddenly day. What would it look like if you bit into it?

Try and imagine it as vividly as you can. Really see it. (2/16)
Okay, now on a scale of 0-10; 0 representing absolutely NO image and 10 being ABSOLUTELY VIVID (almost as if it were real). Now personally where would you rate yourself, be honest.

You& #39;d think the average person would be around like a 4-6 give or take. Now, as a creative- (3/16)
-person and artist, you& #39;d probably say more higher up on the scale, maybe a 7-9. I mean it& #39;s clearly around that range.. right?

Wrong. I& #39;d love to have a 7, heck.. I& #39;d even take a 1.

I,,, don& #39;t see ANYTHING. My mind& #39;s eye is completely blind. Purely blank. I& #39;m a 0.
(4/16)
And I found out this WASNT normal a little less than a year ago.. Funny amiright? No,, it& #39;s really not,, it& #39;s actually kinda traumatic.

The term for what I experience is Aphantasia.

It was discovered in 1880 and I believe has practically been unstudied till- (5/16)
-a few years ago. I really don& #39;t remember if I was born with it or if it was induced by trauma or whatever but... I just can& #39;t see things in my mind. It& #39;s a really life changing thing.

Ever since I figured this out it& #39;s kinda changed my view of the world. (6/16)
And before you ask/say somethin about me being able to do things like drawing from memory. I still have a memory, I CAN identify images and items.

It& #39;s bizarre that Ive functioned like everyone else who can see things in their minds without knowing.
I wanna say I can (7/16)
only imagine what not having this would be like but,,, I can& #39;t... Literally

My mind has to rely on things like experiences and facts.

Its not like having this has seriously changed how I& #39;ve been able to grow up, sure I missed out on a lot but, it went unnoticed for so (8/16)
long. And after figuring out that I missed out on so much and still am,, it makes me feel sort of.... Empty?

Especially as a "creative" person who is around/sees things from other creative people on the daily. It baffles me that they can see what they want to draw or do.(9/16)
Whenever I& #39;ve done things over the years for school and such and people ask me to visualize things, I would close my eyes, and agree with whatever they had me imagine. But,,, all I& #39;d see was black. The inside of my eyelids. I never actually took them seriously. (10/16)
I always thought people were meaning this stuff as a concept, a hypothetical. I never understood.. and I guess I still don& #39;t.

This might also be a cause of my love for fantasy. My brain is trying to make up for the lack of imagination time. Using my art as a way to (11/16)
put my thoughts and ideas that anyone else would be able to imagine in their head, into the world. As if my drawings are a way to get over my lack of mental imagery.

This may not be the case but I think believing that helps me deal with the fact I have Aphantasia. (12/16)
Now hearing my friends mentioning that they were rotating ideas in their head got me thinking about this again recently. In fact, this is always sorta floating around in the deep crevasses of my mind. Taunting me.

Now this thread was my weird way of making it known (13/16)
that I have Aphantasia. I could& #39;ve just purely pointed out this fact but, aphantasia is something that people know very little about, which is why I used the little experiment idea that I& #39;ve seen used before.

Aphantasia is quite an unknown thing and this may just (14/16)
be because I have it personally, but I& #39;ve found that hearing about it is very interesting. So incase you want to learn more about this and are afraid to ask me questions; I& #39;ll be providing some informative links below.

But I will answer any questions anyone has. (15/16)
