Before it gets too late, I need to love on a book I been meaning to for the past week. By now, it should be obvious this Twitter account is just me yapping about books, writing and the occasional personal story thrown in for a taste of variety 😂 1/8
The book in question is DESTROY ALL MONSTERS from @sentencebender

Alot of writers entertain me, many teach me new things, some inspire me with their skill. But not many can make me *feel* and have their work leave me with an emotion hangover. Sam can do that. 2/8
I say he can do that because he's literally done it to me with every novel I've read from him. ART OF STARVING left me doggedly hopeful, BLACKFISH CITY planted a weary determination in my heart and DESTROY ALL MONSTERS made me deeply miss the connections - 3/8
adulthood and all its myriad complexities can be good at sanding down.

In this story, Ash is for Solomon and Solomon is for Ash. Too often I think writers want to portray the kind of deep friendship this novel did but forget to show what a truly continuous and harrowing- 4/8
journey friendship is. So many of us have found our friends while buried in our trauma. We're all shattered glass and can cut each other without meaning to. There can be a tendency to romanticize that, but Sam gracefully avoids it. He doesn't make light of any of the awful 5/8
events going on in this story. Horrible things are happening to people and none of it gets neatly resolved. Life just doesn't bow things up for us with such ease and Sam doesn't forget that. But there is enough catharsis for people to move forward. The last conversation- 6/8
between Ash and Solomon in this book left my heart tugged in so many different direction. So many gay men were like Solomon, having to abandon their hometowns in some pursuit of freedom. And so many of us were like Ash, having to beautifully let go of who we love. 7/8
I've been light on the book's plot because I think you should just read it and discover all of that for yourself. My selling point here is the strength of the MCs' relationship. The character work there alone is a marvel.

Sam will never not be an immediate buy for me. 8/8
