society will always choose people to collectively look up to/admire, which in turn creates the celebrity. I think it’s in our nature. the problem is when we put these people on a pedestal & “stan” (which, if u know the origins of this word, it’s not something u want to be called)
we need to stop thinking celebrities are infallible people. they’re people who do dumb shit, just like us.
because when we “stan” celebrities so hard & think they’re soooooo cool & think they’re hot shit, but then learn abt their private lives that’s not the idea that we had of them in our heads, we are disappointed. & oftentimes, we become cruel against them.
it’s either “This celebrity is the best person ever. I love them. they can do no wrong” or “this person is a piece of shit. delete their music, unfollow” there is no in between. I think that’s weird, & it fails to see the humanity in these people.
stop the idolization. I had to do it with beyoncé, & it’s hard but she’s a person & I think it’s unfair to her for me to see her as anything other than human, because when she does make a mistake, I don’t want to stop liking her altogether.
