What is this conspiracy theory about media organizations meeting everyday to coordinate their coverage? That never happened. Does he mean journos at presser discussing how to use the alotted questions? https://twitter.com/punditclass/status/1264308570276761600
Also, as I recall, the Harper campaign limited the number of questions from travelling media he would take during the campaign. That required journalists to huddle to agree on what questions they should ask and who should ask them. That is not coordinating coverage.
The current PM also limits the questions he will take, requiring journos to huddle before his daily pressers to ensure the most important questions are posed. This is a standard practice. We would prefer every reporter gets to ask his or her Qs, but it doesn't work that way.
Covering any politician, this is sub-ideal. But the huddle makes for better coverage. An example: at PMJT media avail on Friday, we agreed that if no reporter on the teleconference asked about Hong Kong, I would. That let colleagues ask about COVID testing and other issues.
And it needs to be said: all reporters have biases, but their own political persuasion isn't usually among them. Almost all of us are driven by what is the best story, what do readers/viewers want to know, what will get on the front page or lead the newscast.
This is the fundamental point political partisans of all stripes don't understand. Most journalists are not animated personal beliefs, as partisans are, so rabidly.
