i keep seeing posts about "fanfic is so amazing and valid and it's free!" and that is good and wonderful! but it does make me think about authors with kofis and commissions and wonder what some people think about those, if people are generally aware or not?
fanart is generally recognized as having these things, with commissions, prints, and patreons being common, but i've almost never seen fic commissions and kofis before i joined dbh fandom. i'm not sure why.
this thread isn't really going anywhere, i think. my main point is that i think it would be fantastic if more people would consider supporting fic authors through commissions or other methods, rather than saying "it's free" and stop at that.
we have the option to pay for more and to support creators, and i think that's great. there just doesn't seem to be much of a "commission culture" or tipping with writing, but there could be.
