i& #39;ve just read the article that aja shared on her account (rupaul, racism, transphobia) and let me tell you this: i have been an avid fan of the show because i thought that rpdr created a platform for every kind of drag queen, but it has since proved me wrong
over the course of 12 seasons, it has painted queens of color villains -- from the vixen, to ra& #39;jah, and now to brita. now im not saying that it does, but it may promote an idea AGAINST queens of color in general
it holds america& #39;s next drag superstar to a certain standard which are against QOCs
on transphobia, rupaul& #39;s statement about peppermint, saying that she wouldn& #39;t have been allowed to compete if she had started gender-affirming surgery. she made it clear that he did not see peppermint as a woman bc of the lack of medical procedures
also, the tweet that rupaul made against transphobia back then creates a notion that if trans queens were to be allowed to compete, they would be "cheating"
it& #39;s scary to think that rpdr may change the way people percieve drag -- and how much racism and transphobia there is to rpdr. we can stan the queens, but not the show itself. there is more to these exceptional drag queens outside rpdr
