Let’s talk about why the natural hair movement of the 00s was a complete and utter fail shall we? And it’s because we as black women promoted the first pic instead of the second! A THREAD!
So when black women started going natural in about 2010 we did it in a completely UNNATURAL AND UNREALISTIC WAY! Let’s admit most black women went natural thinking they we’re gonna look like naptural85 and some really did end up with that texture! BUT MOST DID NOT!
And instead of accepting our 4c hair and rocking it shrinkage and kinks and coils and all! We began trying to find ways to camouflage our “short coming” and started doing the most in typical black women fashion 😂 incoming “twist outs” and “braid outs” and “curl defining”.
We began doing ANYTHING to give our hair an “elongated curl” & made natural hair “too much work” and simply ditched the perm and went straight back to weaves. Nobody wants to rake a tub of gel through their hair for a “wash n go” or twisting and braiding every night for a “style”
So instead of accepting our hair we ended up complicating the process and giving up on our 4 type hair because we became obsessed with mimicking the first pic. And 4c hair will NEVER be accepted in the media until we accept and promote the second pic.
Also this post isn’t meant to demonize twist outs and braid outs but i truly feel as though it’s too much of a crutch for 4c women. If you feel you can’t walk outside without a braid out or twist out or wash n go that’s what I’m talking about
There are wayyyy less complicated methods of stretching your hair that don’t take 15 hours to dry because you used 6 different “curl defining” gels on 32 small twist. The NA community should have been showing us easy ways to stretch and detangle our hair not mimic 3c hair.
Who said something was wrong with her hair?? Did you pay attention to the post even a little bit?
