After teaching in Xinjiang 18yrs ago, Chris spent years ONLY talking about his experiences in Kyrgyzstan, even on stage
Suddenly after attending "Free HK" protests last year, he has many Uyghur friends lost to concentration camps, despite never talking about a single one of them https://twitter.com/TheGrossChris/status/1264234105371348998

His ever evolving Xinjiang story aside, it got a big upgrade last year after adding he "doesn't know a single Uyghur whose family has not been torn apart by the concentration camps". Families he also hasn't written or spoken a single word about in the 17 years since leaving China
American "Free Hong Kong" activists are always the most creative, but it is really odd that with China being such an extreme abuser of human rights, it's critics still rely so heavily on what seems to be a bunch of compulsive liars.
Actually to be fair, overseas Uyghur "activists" with only ties to American NGO's are far more creative.
Although I'm not sure if when it's this obvious if it's still ok to call it "creativity". https://twitter.com/j_bigboote/status/1182726991675625472?s=19

For entertainment value, Rushan Abbas' exposed reddit AMA has to be the best.
A Uyghur activist who not only turns out worked for the CIA, but actually helped oversee Uyghur prisoners in Guantanamo Bay.
It's gonna be hard to ever top that one folks. https://link.medium.com/1zJQnrIGJ6

Chris issued a statement to dispel any further suspicion.
Summary:
- story is irrelevant, except when vaguely referencing it to establish credibility.
- he paid "little mind" to friends in concentration camps "until a few years ago" when needing to make a point about China.

To be fair again, in terms of entertainment value that Xinjiang activists shaping the global narrative about oppressed Uyghurs bring to the table, Adrian Zenz ranks pretty high also. He's German, but still, to our great surprise, is Washington DC based. https://twitter.com/MaxBlumenthal/status/1208837915687706624?s=19
