Not in a like negative way but I think it's good to learn from mistakes! It's basically the story of how I learned to sew lolol
1. To make Tsubaki have that high, thin ponytail, we bought a long wig, hacked all of it off, then I taped a bobby pin in the ponytail, balanced against my head so it held upwards. And gave myself a huge headache from the pressure of the bobby pin digging into my skull for hours
2. Mor was the first wig I ever styled and I cut it while it was on my head while looking in a mirror, needless to say it was so uneven and botched. Also not pictured, Jason's Alibaba pants that we made the crotch so low he couldn't walk LOL
3. oh Pyrrha where do I begin LOL is it with the hastily made cotton gloves that barely fit my hands, or the corset with zero boning so zero support at all, or the worbla leg armor that literally melted off my body. Also note, the visible safety pin holding up Jason's armor
4. Gamora's body paint LOOKED wonderful, but it was adhesive essentially which glued my face down. I'm not in character here, I literally can't move my face. I couldn't eat and I could only drink through a straw haha not to mention the hours of scrubbing it took to get off
5. LISTEN do not wear plastic rainboots in GA's Sept humidity and bare legs. By the end of the night the only way I could walk back to the hotel was with the boots completely zipped down. The back of my legs were chaffed raw and every step was horribly painful (Photo:Cassimonee)
6. The first scarf I made for Yoko (pictured is 2nd), I made it backwards, with the zipper in the back. Jason politely told me the zipper is in the front and I cried LOL I also learned painting on spandex fabric with acrylic paint takes about 500 layers (Photo:featheredhearts)
7. The white of Saber's dress is horribly uneven. My circle skirt got botched somewhere along the way I didn't notice until all the designs were on and I was not doing it again. I had to adjust the rest of the costume to make the higher skirt side not as noticeable (Vicissijuice)
8. I put so much detail into Prim but she was so hard to wear. I had to pin myself into a cut up bra, and no matter what I did my underwear showed through the sides of the skirt. The top also kept rolling showing where I hastily tried to glue it down (Photo:dancingsquirrel)
9. I had to make my own pigtail wig the first time I did Usagi, and it was a horrid experience LOL Not to mention, chunks of the pigtails just started falling out before the shoot due to them not being secured well enough (Photo:Swoz)
10. I honestly did love this cosplay, it was the first one I was ever proud of. However, I made all the strapping attachments out of thin craft foam and let me tell you how fast they ripped in half LOL (Photo:elleontheradio)
11. I bet most of you didn't even know I did Rey. I really liked the costume construction (I even dyed the gauze) and her bag was fully functional. But her wig was a fake lacefront and I learned I only like genuine lacefronts LOL (Photo: MHG_Photo)
12. I hot glued the blue stripes on her boots while they were on my legs and why would I ever think that was a good idea but oh, did I do it LOL I also accidentally dropped the sword off a second floor balcony right before the shoot (Photo:Swoz)
13. As much as I did like this cosplay I always felt something was off. Her wig and petticoat was too long, and I once again didn't use boning in the corset so it didn't accentuate well. However I do love her tights I dyed (Photo:Skydrop)
14. How about a happy mistake! the circle skirt for Mira's dress ended up HUGE, I mean like the waist was just so big. So I pinched the sides and sewed them together creating these side pleats almost. The result was the huge volume the dress has (Photo:Criticalmasscreations)
15. I ran out of fabric like the week of the con (its not like Merlin has that much fabric c'mon now LOL), so the top parts of her boots aren't lined at all, if you peaked in you'd see red craft foam instead of fabric hahaha (Photo:Criticalmasscreations)
16. I was just learning how to use my serger, closing the final seam on Ellaria, when the fabric got stuck and I serged a hole in the middle of the dress. I managed to close it up but it caused the dress to lose some of the volume I wanted it to have (Photo:Elleontheradio)
17. Ezreal was the first time we ever did resin casting. While the gauntlet looks great, the resin spilled and resulted in hardening a paper bag to the kitchen floor of our old apartment. Yeah, we never go that security deposit back LOL (Photo:Elleontheradio)
18. Momo was without a doubt the hardest cosplay I've ever made. Don't look too close because there are glue stains everywhere from me trying desperately to get this cosplay functional
19. Not so much the cosplay itself but learn from a huge mistake of mine: don't go to Hocking Hills for the first time alone and end up hiking 5 miles in cosplay looking for your friends who you can't find (because you were on the wrong entrance to the trail) (Photo:Jason)
20. A before and after because I used to never wear makeup for cosplay like ever. I would throw on some eyeliner and eyeshadow and that was all (also remember what I said about real lace fronts LOL) (Photo: Ross;Allison)
21. I have so much respect for people who style DBZ wigs like SO MUCH. While I think his wig was good for what we could accomplish at the time it was a huge stressful endeavor (but also proof we did cosplay Goku and Chichi!)
22. Don't get me wrong, my darling girl is not a mistake, but her wig was harder to style than Terra's was. It was too short and the bangs were too choppy. However, it was a learning experience and I styled it better the second time around (Photo:MadsterPhoto)
23. Another darling who was never a mistake, however a huge learning process. Specifically, one glove pops off my elbow in so many of our shots. I had to learn to ignore and stop kicking myself for not noticing because I do love these shots (Photo:KaramelPhotography)
24. As babies, we bought this really expensive black suiting for Takashi, no coupons nothing. Wanna know how many times I botched the jacket and how many times we had to go back and buy more expensive fabric? At least 3 times. I learned how to test pattern after that (Photo:Swoz)
25. If you couldn't tell, wigs are a huge part of this thread LOL its something I've never been able to visualize well and I've just struggled. However, we always learn! These two Cloud wigs were styled only 4 months apart (Photo:RobertTatePhoto;MadsterPhoto)
26. Speaking of wigs, when Jason told me he wanted to cosplay Axel I about died LOL however, we both managed to get through the process. Its not perfect, but we tried (and failed a few times so we tried again) and it was worth it in the end (Photo:MadsterPhoto)
