They're also adoptive siblings! Hooray incest I guess, right? No inherent power imbalances between mommy Shadoweaver's favorite and least favorite kids, amirite?

I wish I could stop seeing this stuff appear in my feed (I've blocked many terms), but it just keeps coming. Ugggh. https://twitter.com/rushvalleys/status/1264304357404807170

I understand many of you are happy about this but as someone with trauma related to adoptive siblings & incest, including my own assault at the hands of a foster sibling & years of people denying both siblinghood & the abuse that happened in these instances, I HATE it.+
Cw incest
Incest is so prevalent in our modern media that I can think of multiple major shows (let alone games, books, or comics) in which it was depicted and more than one in which it was depicted positively, especially amongst adoptive, foster, and step siblings.+
Cw incest
It is a huge fetish in the porn industry to the point that most porn site front pages are 50% some kind of incest. Fanfiction is riddled with it, including real person fic. All of this affects kids who are abused by incestuous family members & helps to normalize abuse.+
Cw incest
My adoptive siblings thought their abuse (not by my parents or bio siblings) was normal and acceptable and in some cases even good & normal because of media influences like these, the "daddy/babygirl" kinks, and a lack of adequate sexual education about abuse for kids.+
Cw incest
People died. People were permanently changed and traumatized. Bloodlines that should have diverged instead kept going in a straight line and nearly ended up with stillborn children. I am done being okay with adoptive, step, or bio incest in media. It isn't okay.+
Cw incest
I try to block terms and avoid it and not watch things but I feel overwhelmed constantly, surprised by twists in shows and other media, and I can't avoid it. It's super triggering. I can't talk to a therapist about details of closed cases of minors! So I live with it.+
Cw incest
I am begging people to think harder about the content that they make, and to stop pretending that adoptive and step siblings and family members don't experience power dynamics just like bio families do, and to stop acting like incest is only about genetics.+
Please do not message me about this. Please understand that this topic is extremely volatile for me and I am in a lot of pain over it, and that you're not going to change my mind somehow over something I have experience with and trauma from.

I'm sorry if this hurts you, too.
