Years ago when we started edging our way into eventual homelessness, I had previously worked for a GC making damn good money.

Company phone, company truck, and again damn good money.

I had also amassed a respectable amount of tools that I had to pawn and sell to make ends meet.
While I have been able to for a long time now, today was the first day that I went out and bought some new tools simply because I could.

A lot of people want "fuck you money" where they can go buy a lambo, 3 tigers, and a spaceship at random.

Granted I still want a spaceship,
But me buying those tools today made me remember how it felt to sell my old ones to buy food.

It was somewhat cathartic when the cashier gave me the total and it didnt matter.

Sometimes we need these little rituals or symbols to mark the end of something and the beginning
Of something else entirely.

Its similar to a rite of passage for a boy becoming a man.

He may be a man in age, but what ritual has he undergone to mark him as a man within the tribe?

Buying those tools, even though I could have before, symbolized to me that the past is over.
