my opinion on harry and sirius' relationship: a thread ✨
first, harry grew up without any parental figures in his life, he was left at the dursley's where he had to raise himself. it obviously affects him, as in the books he is shocked that the weasley's all seem to genuinely like and love each other
harry had no one in a parental role in his life until he is 13 when he meets sirius, but obviously as a newly escaped convict, sirius cannot take harry in BUT he writes to harry after they meet and harry clearly loves and looks forward to these letters, showing how sirius is
becoming important in harry's life,,moving on to gof, harry and sirius are still writing to each other and harry goes and visits sirius, again showing that sirius was keeping in constant touch with harry which is New and Amazing to harry and positively impacts him
onto ootp where we see the most of harry and sirius because now they are 'living' in the same house, we continually see harry go to sirius for advice over lupin, mrs weasley, hermione, ron and even dumbledore, which is huge for harry because in all previous books/movies he rarely
goes to an adult for help,,sirius has spent two years getting to know harry through letters and the times that they were able to meet up; key point is harry explicitly trusts sirius
now in ootp we see info is being kept from harry, he knows nothing about whats happening in the ministry and although shacklebolt shows him that paper and remus explains, its clear the order Do Not want to tell harry even though its front page news
here we see harry Needing the knowledge and sirius being the only one who will give him that despite the rest of the order saying no because sirius KNOWS harry and he knows that harry deserves to know why voldemort wants to k!ll him
sirius is even seen as reasonable here; he doesn't want to tell harry everything, he just wants harry to be on an even playing field because harry is at a disadvantage as voldemort knows part of the prophecy and harry knows none of it
if they only told harry the part voldemort knows, harry would have a better understanding of why voldemort chose him because harry is surely wondering why /him/ of all people why is voldemort targeting him and sirius understands that
sirius is harry's legal guardian and he knows the costs of war he fought in the first one, and he wants harry to survive, dumbledore and molly (although she was wonderful to harry) want to 'preserve' harry's childhood for as long as possible when harry has fought voldemort
several times already. sirius wants to give him this knowledge to help him survive!!
moving onto sirius explicitly acting in a parental way towards harry, we have the family tree scene. sirius clearly knows that harry is unhappy at the dursleys and doesnt get along with them, so he uses his own story to relate to harry and to get him to open up
which works!! harry tells sirius his fears, which he's never done before to another adult (bar telling remus about why he reacted the way he did to the dementors) which shows how sirius and harry have a bond, although its not a conventional father son relationship
its what harry needs at this point in his life. he's 16 years old on that line between dependence and independence and sirius is giving harry the opportunity to open up to him without pushing him, like a father would, and respects that harry is a young adult who can also make his
own choices. he gives harry a clear line of communication between them (the mirror) and doesn't push harry to use it because he was respecting harry's choices (although looking back it may have saved sirius' life but they can't tell the future) because sirius knows that harry
hasn't had this kind of relationship in his life before so doesn't want to overwhelm him
overall harry truly appreciated sirius because he was the only one in the entire order who wanted to tell harry the truth and consistently stayed in touch with harry to get to know him better than remus did, better than dumbledore did, and better than molly did
because sirius allowed harry to open up to him
plus we can't forget that sirius spent 12 years in azkaban, he did make rash decisions and his brash attitude did cause conflict between him and mrs weasley, but at the end of the day, sirius always pushed himself to do right by harry
end of thread ✨ no hate to any of the characters mentioned i love them all this is just purely on the relationship between harry and sirius
