Fred Seibert does not get nearly enough credit he deserves. In the late 80s, he helped steer Nickelodeon into the direction they would take in the 90s (even helped develop the "splat" logo) and played a crucial role in developing the "Nicktoons" brand. Later in 1992, he was (1/?)
president of Hanna-Barbera Studios, which helped play a crucial role in the development of The Cartoon Network. And when the network was created, Seibert help develop an outlet for newcomer animators to create their own cartoons: The What-a-Cartoon Show. This would later (2/?)
give us Dexter's Lab, The Powerpuff Girls, and Courage the Cowardly Dog, some of Cartoon Network's most famous originals. Seibert even said that WAC was an "experiment". In 1997, he went back to Nickelodeon where he gave another version of WAC, Oh Yeah Cartoons!, this would (3/?)
serve as the origins for Fairly OddParents, ChalkZone, and My Life as a Teenage Robot. Seibert's studio, Frederator Studios, would actually go on to be the production company for these aforementioned Nicktoons. Later in 2009, Seibert helped produce Random Cartoons!, while (4/?)
it was relatively obscure compared to WAC or OYC, one notable fact is that it gave the world the Adventure Time pilot, which would later become one of the most important shows of a whole decade and which Frederator Studios would also co-produce. Nowadays, Frederator mainly (5/?)
operates as an internet animation studio, referred to as the Channel Frederator Network, which contains over 2500 YouTube channels including Cartoon Hangover. But they did help produce the Netflix Castlevania series and the upcoming Adventure Time specials (6/7)
But just think about where animation would be today, if it weren't for this one man's vision and effort?
