City Church of East Nashville was the first church I ever went to that felt like home and really became my home. The pastor there used to fence the table / lead communion by saying “we’re not here to play the Church we’re here to be the Church.”
I think about that all the time because I have spent so much of my Christian life meeting people who wanted to play church and I wanted to live the church and be the church.

They are two very different orientations.
This thread isn’t about churches opening or closing but, I would be remiss if I didn’t draw the line between doing the work of the church by observing social distancing and “playing the church” by going and “playing the part” on stage.
