Finally today there's been a sizeable reaction to the exploitative nature of esports as a degree. I've been saying it since it's inception three years ago, @StaffsUni and @staffsunildn are abusing the passions of young people with their production of those degrees (1/3)

I've been very vocal on this to academia within my own university, and those of others who have asked me about it. Right now, when it's just an overly-narrowed management degree, it's just a waste of the talent they are going to attract. Plus, delving into esports at a... (2/3)

club level while at university gives you the ability to specialise yourself. As coach and co-founder of @warwickesports I've specialised my linguistics degree to make me a coma expert, my co-founder @samhine is did data science, and is an incredible analyst. (3/gonna need more)

Like any industry, companies want unique talents, and that degree whitewashes you in an interview for an esports degree. @GrantR_XL said it well in a speech once, wanting to be in esports isn't enough, you need to know what you want to do WITHIN esports. (5/almost done I swear)

Not only that, but you need to stand out. If I got for an interview for a coaching role, even if I had an 'esports coaching" degree, I'd need unique traits. My experience as a coach and my linguistics degree and a specialised dissertation gives me that. (6/okay just one more)

It's so sad to see too because I personally know there are talents on that course, but it's just manipulating their passion. I've spoken about this with my dad @PaulFenton_FRSA a few times, and it's just an example of profit-oriented pedagogy. Such a waste of talent man (7/7)

I got so triggered just thinking about it that I lost the ability to count, that's 6 tweets worth of ranting (now actually 7) and I could go on. It's also worth mentioning even with a full 3 cohorts of 'esports students' @warwickesports still smashed them in the @nse_gg tables...
