HEY GUYS the fact that Broadway is inaccessible to anyone who isn't

Not only is the cause of the bootleg community but also limits the amount of stories and art that can be shared in the Broadway space.

If only rich white people can afford to go to Broadway of course these historic halls are going to continue to be flooded with subpar jukeboxes and musicals based on dated films with scores that sound like they were written 5 decades ago. The tone deafness of the higher ups rly
Is starting to show. "Beetlejuice" is a perfect example, one of the most streamed albums on Spotify, a contemporary score with a fanbase of adamant young people and potential to run for years is shoved out of its space for a production of "Music Man" no one asked for.
"Six" side-stepped being bootlegged by letting their audience film the mega mix in the finale bc of this getting your hands on a bootleg of the show was hella challenging. The first change when they made the move to Broadway was not allowing this.
AND GUESS WHAT YOU CAN FIND INCREDIBLY EASILY ON YOUTUBE NOW?
When you allow access to your art to only those that can pay an exorbitant you limit the stories you can tell while still turning a profit. This keeps your audience from growing. Broadway isn't dying bc of bootlegs, it's dying bc you only cater to a single demographic.

And that's before discussing all of the sexual misconduct backstage, reviving shows that should stay dead *Looking at you domestic abuse is love subplot of Carousel*, and most candidly having nothing new or innovative to say. Art is innovation not recreation.
Art for profits sake isn't just gatekeepy and pretentious. It's usually just bad.

I'm not saying bootlegs are good or bad but if the only option is to fly to NY and drop hundreds of dollars on a ticket to a show you might not enjoy instead of taking advantage of the literal goldmine a streaming platform for theatre would be like idk what you expected to happen
Especially now that we're stuck inside indefinitely WHAT IS THERE TO LOSE? Idk this whole debate feels very tone deaf and overlooks anyone below the upperclass line who couldn't afford an 80-200 dollar ticket but maybe could afford a 20 dollar stream rental or a subscription fee
Not to mention this industry shouldn't be comparing anything to child porn after single-handedly keeping Amar Ramasar *A known sexual predator* 's career afloat.
