why you putting pronouns in bio helps trans people — a thread by an enby person

oki so i'm saying this based on my experience on tumblr and twitter pls if i'm wrong in any aspect don't be rude just let me know nicely

first of all my pronouns are they/them !!

so, why should you, a cis person, put pronouns in bio? why does it help trans people in any way? it's actually pretty simple and i'm almost sure there are people who spoke on this before

basically, trans ppl started putting pronouns in bio because other people would misgender based on pictures or just plain ignorance ("oh i'm in a boyband fandom so everyone here must be a girl") stuff like that

and so putting pronouns in bio became a trans thing™ only trans people did

so yeah, if you had pronouns in bio you'd stand out, and transphobes and homophobes would see that as a "hey look i'm openly trans come harass me" even if the person wasn't even out

because pronouns in bio is a trans thing™

so having that in mind, what trans and enby people mean when we say you putting pronouns in bio helps us, is simply this: by doing it, you're normalizing pronouns in bio and helping us blend in, making it harder for transphobes to pick us out and harass us

you're helping make pronouns in bio stop being a trans thing™ and become a NORMAL thing everyone does

so it's not actually a target on our backs

you're helping us feel safer on the internet
