so yibo was asked to diss xz and he said 黑 (hei) which in this instance is translated as tanned... which is clearly colorist and that’s v much not okay, colorism is really really harmful.

i saw this bc it went around in a tweet passing it off as a wholesome video and got like 300 rts and 700 likes which is... concerning and disappointing that lots of people in his fandom or cql fandom etc could watch this and like/rt without seeing an issue :/

now the editing on this is absolutely horrible with how it points out xz’s colouring and the words written but let me focus on what yibo said which is 黑 (hei) as in tanned :/ but it was also stressful bc it can translate to do with blackness but yeah apparently

here he means tanned, i’m not chinese so i can’t speak to the implications or how the word is used but the fact that he used it as a diss, whether it be jokingly or not, is bad enough and the fact that it was the first thing that came to mind is rly sad, it shows the issue rly

colorism is a major issue and we need to hold people accountable for what they say and do, it does more harm than good to pretend that your faves are incapable of fucking up or never have if they have. and people who are hurt are valid and allowed to be upset.

in my personal dealing with this it is hurtful and with people of colour a lot of us have internalised this bullshit and i know there’s complexities to this and its v normalised in places but its not wrong to want yibo and folx in fandom to learn and not let things go unchecked

sorry for taking so long to talk about it on main, i wanted to hear from others first and also work through my feelings before possibly putting things out there in a way that can be irresponsible bc i know its a lot so yeah. if anyone affected wants to vent/talk i’m always here

on a related note its entirely fair to want yibo to learn bc tbh he should know that the fact that he’s able to be in the position he is in at all is in part thanks to colorism as he is lighter in skin tone and he is participating in an industry which v often falsely props up
