This is an incredibly tough situation. Wolfie is 11 months old (read: generally unable to be left to his own devices for more than 30 minutes a day, plus breaks at naptimes), and working full time while both of us manage him full time is HARD. https://twitter.com/staceynycdc/status/1264005641867276300
In our home, we both make similar amounts of money, and we split the day as evenly as we can. Some days that isn't possible, and we both try to be understanding about that. One of the things that has helped IMMENSELY is letting go of "how."
I don't care how he loads the dishwasher, or what temperature the clothes are washed in, or what kinds of play/learning he does with the baby. He does it, and it's done, and I don't worry about how it gets done when he's on deck to do home stuff.
Could this family have done more to help the woman's employees? Maybe! Maybe a virtual assistant could have made a difference, maybe decreasing the number of clients/staff and informing them of less hours available.
At the end of the day, I feel sorry for everyone involved. Sometimes 12 hours straight with your kid is rough, man. Three straight days of my spouse locking themselves in their office without ANY relief? Oof. The whole situation sucks.
Anyway, huge props to @JimiCroker, who is an excellent househusband. Don't always agree every time on the "how," but the end product is we both parent and manage the house on our terms, and since we have the same goals for those things, that's more than enough for us.
People need to leave this family alone and let them decide what's best for them. Want to change this story? Fight for Universal Child Care. Don't just drag this woman and her husband on the Twitter machine. https://medium.com/@teamwarren/my-plan-for-universal-child-care-762535e6c20a
