Reboot Lara Croft is sexist (THREAD).

Many of us used to the backlash classic Lara Croft is usually getting by the mainstream media but what if I told you that not only that classic Lara Croft isn't sexist but her modern iteration actually is the sexist one?

1/10
Let me explain, Lara Croft from the very beginning was created to be a rebellious character who doesn't give a fuck about what men tell her to do and what not to do.

2/10
According to her original bio, her parents made an arranged marriage that she decided to run away from to pursue her dreams and do things by her own rules.

3/10
She wore shorts and revealing clothes in general, she had sex-appeal and fully embraced it even if it was unacceptable by our society "standards" back in the 90s and nowadays.

4/10
All those things made her an empowering character for women, men and especially the LGBTQ community. She showed that you can achieve your dreams while still being true to yourself and that you are the one who's in control of your life.

5/10
When Crystal Dynamics decided to reboot the Tomb Raider franchise and Lara Croft's character, they basically have given up to the "male gaze".

6/10
They thought that people can only take a female character seriously if she isn't wearing shorts and have sex-appeal, they thought that people can only take her seriously if she's following a man's footsteps (her father),

7/10
they thought she can only be taken seriously if she's constantly emotional and does the "right thing".

8/10
They've given up on an iconic female character to make the mainstream male audience stop making comments on her look and personality instead of embracing it and show that a woman can wear whatever she wants and still can be taken seriously by the majority of people.

9/10
The regressive approach that the reboot took with the character of Lara Croft just shows that classic Lara Croft was and still is ahead of her time, even in 2020.
