Well, the Star Citizen fleet week free fly (based on the buggy 3.9.1 build) has been a resounding disaster. As expected. They postponed it to today because the servers keep going offline, crashing etc. As of this writing, the status is the same.

Then, unexpectedly, the implemented a server queue system for this update.

That they implemented a queue system means that they're no longer dynamically spawning AWS server instances on demand. That's a cost saving measure.
There's NO other plausible reason to create a queue for a game that only supports 50 clients per server instance anyway; and which falls over with 16+ clients.

Here we see 2 of the 12 popular streamers was staring at a queue. Seriously.

When you can actually join, this hilarious video gives you an idea of what to expect.
For those who managed to actually join a server, well, take a look.

If I explained what was even going on in this thread where a CIG dev explains the server issues, you'd think it was just hyperbole on my part. So do go ahead and read it for yourself and spare me the effort.

It's amazing that $350m and 9 yrs later, they still haven't figured out ANY of this stuff. But they're totally making an MMO though - with an engine that was deemed inadequate back in 2016.
And if their funding chart is to be believed (we still believe it's pure bs) and 2020 funding stays on track, it means that by year end they would have raised almost 30% of the funding they raised in all 8 yrs. Sunk Cost Fallacy is a real thing.
