Earlier this month, Uncle @fisayosoyombo tweeted that @LUTHofficial had slashed the salaries of some domestic staff to 15K, barely a month after it was raised to 30K for the first time in 9 years.

So myself and @mojeed07 decided to dig deeper. What we found was heartrending. https://twitter.com/PremiumTimesng/status/1264197782400913409
There are those who for 13 years have had pay rise only twice. First in 2011, to 20K; then in 2020, to 30K; and then back to 15K by April 2020

In those years, they got no allowance whosoever, pension contributions, extra benefits. Nothing. Just the pittace they get as salaries.
These domestic staff said they are neither on any salary grade level nor do they get periodical pay increment, except by protests, which they hardly ever try.

Even at this, they are always afraid to talk, because they don't want to lose their jobs, however low-paying it is.
On transport alone, one of them said, he spends N500 daily from his home in Bariga to Idi-Araba where LUTH is. That's 15K monthly, the worth of his newly slashed salary.

He said he is indebted, and has a daughter to feed. Yet he does not have another job. He has nowhere to go.
These are maids who fix oxygen in wards, clean wards, are nurse assistants, etc. However it is viewed, they have contact with frontline health workers.

One of them was recently quarantined for 14 days after 8 doctors contracted the deadly virus.

Increased risk. Less pay. Sad.
LUTH doesn't see them at its staff, CMD Chris Bode said

They work for LUTH Initiatives LTD, the private wing of @LUTHofficial which offer high-end medical services to patients that can pay more

The hospital use them to offer cheap labour for rich Nigerians who seek medical help
LUTH said the reason for the pay cut is because of the drop in patient inflow and fall in IGR, due to the closure of numerous sections of the hospital bar emergency-related services.

But professional health officials with more pay did not have similar pay cut.
