I can’t speak for your county, but in my very large county (pop. well over 2 million people) we have been partially reopened for 3 weeks, activity is almost back to normal, we continue to bend the epidemic curve, and our reopened hospitals are not any busier now than 6 weeks ago.
It’s increasingly clear that this virus primarily spreads primarily in close corners indoors. People are not getting sick in grocery stores or parks or beaches, but in large part in nursing homes, prisons, subways, and among health care workers who are treating infected people.
Clearly, we are still learning. But this is no longer early March. We know a whole lot more today than we did in early March. It really is time for politicians to start acting on what we know instead of continuing to play on fear. Fear is a life destroyer.
We need to stop living under false assumptions of worst case scenarios that drive computer models that are a fraudulent substitution for real scientific knowledge (which we SHOULD be demanding from our politicians and experts). Science needs to guide us, not mislead us.
