This is another lockdown story from late March. It involves of a man from a different background to Mr Dominic Cummings. THREAD
This man had been released on licence from custody to a probation approved premises. He developed a cough which lasted a few days and then cleared up. He told staff there that he felt fine but he was told he had to self-isolate.
He told staff that he was unhappy about having to self-isolate because he had to care for his mother and he was worried about the impact on upon her. He was told he could not go to his mother’s address.
The next day he told staff that, although he still felt fine, he did not feel it was fair on others at the premises if he stayed there because there were communal facilities and people were living in close proximity.
He asked if he could stay at his sister’s where he said he could self-isolate without putting anyone else at risk. He was told he had to remain at the approved premises and had to self-isolate. He complained about this.
The following day he was recalled to custody on the basis that he had breached a licence condition “to be of good behaviour”. He had not been arrested. He had not behaved violently.
It is now two months later. He is still in prison. The Parole Board has not yet reviewed his case. His sentence ends in two weeks’ time.
This man is not an adviser to the government.
