I think my favorite thing about second hand books is all the little scribbles and notes that are left behind by the previous reader
I used to be staunchly anti-marking, I couldn't stand even the littlest pencil line on a page. studying literature forced me into the habit of writing in the margins and now I absolutely love it
even as precious as I was with my books, I took them with me EVERYWHERE. I'd get pasta sauce on the pages, water spots on the dust jacket. some of my books still smell like hit chocolate when you hit the right chapter.
Now I leave myself notes in all of my books. For a later reread, or maybe for whoever gets the books after me, a discovery of where the story took me
