Irrespective of the Cummings situation, let's get a few things straight...

It is (and always was) legal to leave your house in order to provide essential care.

It's also legal (and always was) for close family members to attend funerals, unless they have Covid symptoms.
Also.... Since at least April, the government has advised that if you have Covid symptoms, you SHOULD move any VULNERABLE people that you live with to a different house, if you can.
And (since at least April) the government has advised people who have Covid symptoms: "If you are living with children... Keep following this advice to the best of your ability, however, we are aware that not all these measures will be possible."
Also, re Cummings.... it's worth remembering that the police were aware of his situation, and seemingly decided not to take any further action.
