Note: This thread is about CD pressings, not LP's/Vinyls.
𝟭/𝟭𝟱) The first reason is the sound quality and dynamic range. Voices and instruments are clearer and more transparent on the original. It is day and night, no debate. Volume is lower but at same decibels there are more details on the original CD than any other pressings.
𝟮/𝟭𝟱) Comparison of the original CD VS Bad 25. As you can see Bad 25 is MUCH louder than the original pressing. Does it mean it sounds better ? Surely not.
And why ?
And why ?
𝟯/𝟭𝟱) By increasing the volume that much, the dynamic range is divided by two, it's very compressed and some informations are lost. It sounds louder, but not "better" at equals dB. Bad 25 is victim of "Loudness War". Note that Bad 25 and 2001 mastering are quite similar.
𝟰/𝟭𝟱) The bonus tracks is the only reason why I suggest you to buy Bad 25 or the SE, nothing else. Note that you will not hear any major differences at equals dB if you compare them with cheap speakers. Also I suggest you to know what is "Loudness War"

𝟱/𝟭𝟱) This is the Dynamic Range Meter of each "Bad" tracks.
Original vs 2001 Special Edition vs Bad 25. You can use it with a software called foobar2000. It shows you if the dynamic range of the track is good... or bad.
12+: Good Dynamic Range
8-12: Average
-8: Bad

𝟲/𝟭𝟱) The second reason to buy the original 87 CD is that it contains the original mixes of the songs. Yes, five songs were later edited AFTER the original release, the edits were done between September 1987 and 1988.
𝟳/𝟭𝟱) It seems that Michael wasn't happy with some songs, despite the fact that the album was already released.
Which songs are concerned ? Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Dirty Diana, I Just Can't Stop Loving You and Smooth Criminal.

𝟴/𝟭𝟱) Original "Bad" mix has more trumpets which you can clearly hear around 2:03 and are not present in the later releases.
𝟵/𝟭𝟱) The original "The Way You Make Me Feel" has quieter vocals and doesn't contain the "fade out vocals" at the end of the song.
𝟭𝟬/𝟭𝟱) "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" original mix contains a spoken intro by Michael, removed on later pressings.
𝟭𝟭/𝟭𝟱) “Dirty Diana” was replaced with the 7-inch edit of the song which is 4:41, making the song around 10sec shorten the original mix which is 4:52. The original mix contains a longer "crowd scream" fade out.
𝟭𝟮/𝟭𝟱) In the original intro of “Smooth Criminal”, Michael breathes as if he were frozen. It was later removed. On the later pressings we just hear his heart beat.
𝟭𝟯/𝟭𝟱) Where can I buy the first pressing with original mixes ?
Ebay might be the best places since it's not that easy to find a very early pressings with the five original mixes. Some pressings has 4,3,2 or 1 original mix only.
Some pictures of a very first pressing:

𝟭𝟰/𝟭𝟱) You have to be sure that 𝗜 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂 has the spoken intro, then you can be sure that the fourth other songs has the original mixes, because they were edited later.
𝟭𝟱/𝟭𝟱) Thank you for reading. Next thread will be about Off the Wall CD pressings.
