This is somehow a hard question for me to answer. For one thing I don’t have the type of data that guy has!
And yeah, I try to avoid doing work that requires uninterrupted focus while taking care of my kids.
Though I napped for 39min yesterday! The toddler was asleep though. https://twitter.com/meditationstuff/status/1263855425436467208

And there have been shitty moments when I have put on my ear muffs and gone on parenting “strike” until I get 5 uninterrupted minutes. Not for quite a while though.
Somehow, what this guy is saying is relatable, but it’s also not?
Hard to explain, but I’ll try.

IMO it’s both true that:
1. Kids can learn to interrupt less, but that costs something.
2. I can learn to care less about intereuptions, and that costs something. https://twitter.com/diviacaroline/status/1207160184587599872

And IME there’s a vibe I get where parent/kid attentional patterns have reached a sort of equilibrium, that I don’t get from him.
I do get it from my situation.
Which makes sense. I get the impression this is fairly new to him, and it’s not new to me.

Dunno if this is making sense.
I suspect his kids aren’t really modeling the cost of interruption to him, and weighing it against the cost of not interrupting to them.
And that he’s not really weighing these things either.
And that’s a big part of why it feels how it does.

I’ve always seemed to mind interruptions less than most people.
And I think I (subconsciously) refactored my working memory after I had kids, and I’m more interruptible than I used to be.
Some tasks are still way better uninterrupted though.
