Found the city of Seattle's shower trailer! Tucked away behind King Street Station, in a spot not visible from any street, and still fenced off yesterday despite an announced Friday opening date.
As I've reported, the city has been paying tens of thousands a month to rent two trailers from a California company since March, starting with a $28,000 credit card charge that required a credit limit increase. They've gone unused for 2 months of a proposed 3-month rental period.
Initially, the plan was to put this trailer in a spot that was actually visible to people who might want to use it, at Occidental Park. City Hall Park and the downtown library vicinity were also considered. Now it's in a parking cul-de-sac that gets no foot traffic.
Hopefully social service agencies will proactively direct homeless people to this spot. I don't see how they would find it otherwise. Much like the four open library restrooms, these trailers may see low use without concerted efforts to advertise their existence.
One new wrinkle the city introduced last week is that one of the two trailers will now be "roving" between two and possible more spots, making its presence unpredictable.
Want to take a shower in Lake City? Your days are Saturday and Sunday, 10-4. Seattle Center? "Typically" Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Don't forget to make a reservation 30 minutes before the trailer opens or you may have to wait until next week. https://atyourservice.seattle.gov/2020/05/20/increasing-hygiene-access-for-our-most-vulnerable-residents-shower-trailers-deploying-in-seattle/
