Inconvenient truth: some of us (i.e. bougie and/or Blue Checkmark "us") are going to have to accept the reality that using fear to motivate black folks to vote will not work. It will not work on a people that have had to live in fear their entire existence in this country.
All we as people know is fear. Fear of white racists. Fear of cops. Fear of bullets flying. Fear of homelessness. Fear of discrimination. Etc. The last decade or so seems to have revealed that we are tired of fear. Obama in 2008 understood this, so he sold (false) hope.
If the Dems had truly wanted to make sure we come out & vote in 2020 to unseat Trump & his ilk, they would've learned this lesson from 2008 & 2016: fear won't work. (Nor will false hope..been there done that.) We're damn near numb to fear & cynical of smooth talking hope dealers.
So what would it have taken to ensure black turnout for Dems in 2020? I'm not sure...y'all have taken us for granted for so long it's hard to trust any of y'all. But here's a guess: Dems could've started by owning up to the bullshit of their party & and promising to do better.
And then live up to that promise by 1) proposing policies that directly, unequivocally help us, & 2) uplifting (rather than erasing or railroading) presidential and down ballot candidates who are doing #1.

But I'm just one black woman from a poor family posting Twitter musings.
