‘a group of people’ | a thread
I saw this thread on instagram about the concentration camps for muslims in China. Obviously what they are doing to the muslims is outrageous and should be stopped immediately, so I continued to read some of the comments and there were many that weren’t very appropriate.
Some of the comments were talking about how people want war with China and/or some very offensive statements also including that they hate all chinese people/China etc.
The things people are doing to muslims is totally unacceptable and I understand why people aren’t very happy with the people in China who are carrying out these activities, but it’s not appropriate to be angry at all chinese people/the whole of china.
Not everyone is involved with this, as you may or may not have known, the chinese government is a dictator and many chinese disagree with his actions.
This is why i think it would be better if people used the term ‘a group of people in ..’ as even with traditions, not every single person of a country is going to follow a tradition fully, same with religions etc.
If we used the phrase ‘a group of people’ maybe people could come to the realisation that you shouldn’t blame a whole country for a few people’s actions e.g. a group of people in the U.S. are Karens as not every U.S. citizen is a Karen.

Please share, it would be helpful ᵕ̈
