Satoshi was an astute follower of the follies of fiat money & probably a gold bug.

The signs that Satoshi's invention was more of a digital gold than a feeless payment system were the following:

1/ Genesis block message.

"Chancellor on bring of second bailout for banks"
2/ Satoshi's birthday was set as April 5, 1975.

April 5 1933 was the day that Roosevelt signed executive order 6102 making it illegal to own gold (USD fixed at $35/oz)

Gold ownership became legal again on Jan 1 1975 (after the $35 peg was cancelled & gold rose to $150.)
3/ In the 1700s, the Spanish Silver Dollar was the foreign currency standard within the Colonies.

Monetary historian Dr. Edwin Viera notes the reales were cut into 8 pieces each called a 'bit.'

Bitcoin has 8 decimal places.

(This is also where the phrase 'two-bit' came from.)
