#dailybriefing today is frankly ridiculous. In order to protect Dominic Cummings, the govt now seem to be issuing advice that people can travel even while infectious, and that the advice is open to interpretation. This is hugely damaging from a public health perspective.
This message alone is likely to cause so much harm, as it now opens up for people to travel to families whilst ill. Harries repeatedly says that the advice doesn't need to be followed if their are 'safeguarding issues'. Hard to see how this was a safeguarding issue.
If a parent is not able to look after their child, they're also not fit to drive 260 miles. And of course being in a car with their 4 yr old for 5 hrs when they should be isolating away from uninfected family members is also negligent.
As a public health message this is a car crash. Are we now telling the public, that it's ok to travel whilst infected and symptomatic now? Is taking such a risk with public messaging worth protecting one individual?
