It’s almost like the obsession with super hero movies coincided with a cultural hope that somebody, anybody would save us from ourselves without there needing to be mass action or personal change.

And it’s almost like the Avengers, a team consisting of Captain America, an arms manufacturer, the personification of an atomic bomb, an aryan god, all brought together by shadowy intelligence, was a hope that America’s institutions would hold and overcome.

And it’s almost like the hero worship of a long line of saviors everyone expected to save us from Trump was misplaced and all along we should’ve been working on populist and grassroots protest and opposition.

And it’s almost like popular culture is a projection of our underlying hopes and fears, as shown by the fact the Avengers villains were personifications of fascism, artificial intelligence/weaponized technology, and a genocidal mass death.

And it’s almost like Ultron and Thanos were created when these building fears of technology and climate change first caught our attention and were just watching building fears come back around because they weren’t dealt with at first.

And it’s almost like popular culture is actually a projection of unconscious fears and desires and you can learn to discern it, I.e. late 90’s movies that showed America being destroyed and attacked in eerily prescient predictions of 9/11.
