Writing Advice

The difference between the Indie and Trad author is simple.

The Indie plans for their book to be a success by having sequels ready to go in advance and release in a rapid and timely manner to meet market demand.

The Indie plans for success.
Trad Authors and their Publishers are hoping to get “Lucky.”

If so... they’ll produce one more book in a year or two.

In Netflix Binge Culture that’s death.
By the time that next book has come out from Trad the audience has been lured and distracted by the indie who’s produced 8-12 more books, built a fan club, released audiobooks, sells swag, and effectively created a culture for their brand.
Meanwhile the Trad Reader has to remember that the sequel was due at some point. Go find it in a bookstore because the Pub certainly doesn’t want you getting it off Amazon. And then try to recall the story and why they were interested in it a year or two ago.
Oh BTW the Indie is releasing another book this month at a lower price in a story arc you’re already glued to.
In other words... The Indie does Customer Service better. Something the Bigs left behind a long time ago in favor of identity culture and pet narratives.
