Why Marcus Rashford has been a better player than Raheem Sterling this season. (Thread)
Want to start by saying i feel he's better this season and i have a lot of respect for raheem over his career but now we're in the present.
In the league Sterling sits 2nd in the league while Rashford sits 5th, showing Sterling has a better support cast.
Sterling also plays with the player with the most assists; Kevin De Bruyne who has 16 league assists. As for United Daniel James has their most assists with 6.
In terms of stats

Sterling-
24 games
2017 mins
11 goals
1 assist
12 g/a
.54 g/a p90

Rashford-
22 games
1875 mins
14 goals
4 assists
18 g/a
.86 g/a p90
Rashford has outdone Sterling in league play this season outdoing him in assists and goals despite having a worse support cast
Across all competitions- worth noting that Sterling plays in the UCL

Sterling-
39 games
3028 mins
20 goals
4 assists
24 g/a
.71 p90
Rashford
31 games
2357 mins
19 goals (1 in EL)
6 assists (1 in EL)
25 g/a
.95 p90

Rashford outdoes him here again but we do see that Sterling has had a better performance across all comps than in the league- unfortunately same for rashford.
It is worth noting that Rashford has score 5 penalties and Sterling has scored 1 penalty (off a rebound). The reason i still feel the use to count these penalties are the fact that they aren't as easy as most say
Another reason to count these penalties is that people tend to forget that rashford has won most his penalties which is a skill; it shows he's contributing towards his team very well towards his own goals. Being able to draw fouls in the box is a skill looked at by scouts etc.
Here's a video of Rashford winning the penalties.
Without penalty kicks
Rashford

0.73 g/a p90

Sterling
0.68 g/a p90

now adding penalties won as it shows contribution

Rashford
0.88 g/a p90

Sterling
0.68 g/a p90

Rashford still comes on top
Now onto big games

Rashford is known for keeping his very best for the biggest occasion as seen various times like vs spurs this season or even psg last year, but how does it look in comparison to sterling
Rashford vs the big 6 in 19/20

8 games
9 goals
1 assist
10 g/a

Sterling

10 games
3 goals
0 assists
3 g/a

so it shows rashford isn't just "stat padding" he's turning up at the big moments
