If one had to pick three villains of 20th century, it would be hard to find worse than Hitler, Stalin, and Mao.

Hitler’s regime ended in 1945. The Soviet Union died in 1991.

Chinese totalitarian communism never died. It adapted.

Trade is not more important than security.
I’ve always been a free trader. Always been in favor of the trade agreements. Understood the arguments for comparative advantage and benefits of trade.

But I was blind to COSTS of trade.

It’s one thing to trade for nonessential items. Another to rely on trade for essentials.
And even worse to rely on trade for essentials with a totalitarian communist dictatorship that has completely different objectives than the free world.

We were fools to allow trade in essentials with China.

We need to stop being fools.
