i can’t put into words just how racist UKSCN is, and how harmful it is that the very organisation that is supposedly meant to tackle w historic oppression, is perpetuating some of the most harmful narratives i have ever come across in my 5.5years of organising &extensive reading
make it make sense 😭
the climate movement in general is incredibly white washed and UKSCN isn’t the first organisation to be perpetuating racist narratives, however the lack of accountability present is distinct as the problems exist without most acknowledging their existence
it’s interesting to see how when confronted with issues regarding power&privilege imbalances,BAME people are left to fend for themselves and are expected to educate their oppressors about their own oppression whilst the other people present look on as bystanders&this is universal
anyways my tl;dr of this thread is to read this piece : https://www.vice.com/en_uk/article/g5x5ny/why-i-quit-being-a-climate-activist by the incredible Karin Louise Hermes & take in to account and act on what she says. We can NOT push out more BIPOC members from the movement for *justice*
