I know I've made it clear on several occasions that I don't ship boukai for just⊠an insane amount of reasons but I want to make it clear that I do understand why to an extent. there's a lot of emotional intensity between Kaiji and Kazuya
they share a very specific set of personality traits that connect them in an intimate and personal way that neither of them really share with others. namely, and it might seem strange to put so much emphasis on this one aspect of their personalities, their anger
they are both very, very angry people, and it tends to be something that often serves to alienate them from others. in a lot of ways they are two sides of the same coin and the key difference between them is the conscious decisions they make on what kind of person they wish to be
Kaiji has a strong sense of right and wrong and a fixation with universal and personal justice whereas Kazuya lacks that in every capacity. but it doesn't change that at the core of both of them there's still that effervescent anger and dissatisfaction bubbling below the surface
theyâre both incredibly competitive and tend to victimize themselves and neither of them tends to express the full weight of their feelings. Kazuya's maladaptive coping mechanisms are obvious and plentiful but Kaiji is a little more tricky
I think Kaiji parts 1 and 2 gave some good insight as to how Kaiji channels negative feelings like sadness or anxiety into anger as it allows him to actually do something about the circumstances that cause those emotions to arise and whether it helps or hurts is irrelevant
these are also all the reasons that I absolutely cannot ship Kaiji and Kazuya in any romantic capacity whatsoever; the two of them are so similar in such volatile ways that it would be an absolute nightmare for not just Kaiji but both of them
I know a lot of energy gets expended in discussing why the ship would be so terrible for Kaiji and I'm putting aside completely my opinion that Kazuya is already inherently an irredeemable person but Kaiji isn't the one if you want to see a changed Kazuya
all these qualities â that I think make for a great and sordid kinship between them â are flaws and if anything Kaiji would only serve to reinforce all these habits
it's not even a matter of using Kaiji's sense of morality to counteract Kazuya's behavior but that Kaiji has a very specific way of responding to Kazuya that does nothing to serve as an incentive for rehabilitation and would only feed Kazuya incessant need for ANY validation
and though itâs not at all in any way the same as Kazuya wasting his vast riches on devising death games and writing revenge porn fic, Kaiji constantly belittles Kazuya about everything: his attitude, his status, his general awfulness etc.
basically: Kazuya and Kaiji have a lot that bonds them that fascinates me in the same way a car crash is; it's awful, scary, and you have a hard time looking away. and there's nowhere near enough written about it in a strictly non-romantic, platonic context
I wondered why most of the tweets in this thread weren't showing up for me in tweetdeck and that's because I had boukai and kazuya muted for months LOL... clearly it's done some good for my skin
