Think teaching is easy? This thread is a challenge for you.

Pick a topic to teach, this could be anything, doesn’t really matter.

#COVIDー19 #OntEd #onpoli #TOpoli

Note: Teachers, feel free to add anything I’ve missed.
For simplicity, let’s say your lesson is 75 min. Break down what you would do for those 75 min. What are the students doing for 75 min?

Your lesson should have at least three parts: Hook, Body, Consolidation

Note: They can’t be sitting and listening to you talk for 75 minutes.
Now consider accommodations.

Do you have English Language Learners (including English as a Second Language)?

Do you have students with Special Education needs?

Do you have students facing personal issues at home, in society, or with friends that affects their concentration?
How you are incorporating Culturally Relevant and Responsive Pedagogy, Global Competencies, Six Threads of Inclusive Design, Numeracy and Literacy, Blended Learning, Learning for All, Differentiated Instruction, Inquiry-Based Learning, Backwards Unit Planning

(Google them)
Now consider you can’t pick your topic, you must follow the curriculum.

You must do the above for 3 lessons a day, every single day.

You must do assessments of, for, and as learning (google it) and grade SOME of those assessments, but def try to record all of those assessments
Let’s go deeper into assessment.

How are you:

Giving Descriptive Feedback?
Establishing Learning Goals and Success Criteria in Rubrics?
Giving feedback in a timely fashion?
Reporting marks with comments and learning skills for 30-180 students?
Then suddenly, after years of developing lessons, you need to redo everything because of a pandemic. You need to change your lessons to be fully online, with little Professional Development.

You do this.

Then your big boss (Min of Ed) says publicly you’re doing it wrong.
You do the above day after day because you care about your students. You want them to do well.

Then you see ppl commenting about how teaching is easy and teachers are lucky they have summers off.

Teaching is an art. Don’t devalue it.
