One thing this whole "remote work" is missing is if you don't have good standards of management & reasonable levels of trust your team that barely functions in an office will fully disintegrate when they aren't faced with regular reminders of each other's existence and humanity.
Like this Facebook "high performer" thing is a blunt implement likely to be used against women and PoC, sure. But also a lot of what they are doing seems like a way to maintain some level of control and accountability. Why do they need to do that?
I haven't heard Facebook held up as a particularly great engineering culture or well delivering organization. They've just been on a good enough trajectory to bandaid a lot of things. The fancy offices were probably a big part of that bandaid. Well, the band aid is gone now.
